چکیده

The widely spread use of the hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) for multi-ion analysis is primarily ascribed to following reasons: (i) excellent reproducibility owing easy renewal surface avoiding any hysteresis effect (i.e., a new identical generated each measurement be accomplished); (ii) wide cathodic potential window originating from passive hydrogen evolution and solvent electrolysis; (iii) ability form amalgams with many redox-active metal ions; (iv) achievement (sub)nanomolar limits detection. On other hand, main controversy HMDE usage high toxicity level mercury, which has motivated scientific community question whether deserves continue being used despite its unique capability multi-metal In this work, simultaneous determination Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+ using investigated as model system evaluate features technique. analytical benefits in terms linear range response, reproducibility, limit detection, proximity ideal redox behavior ions time are herein demonstrated compared electrodes proposed literature less-toxic alternatives HMDE. results have revealed that largely superior reported methods several aspects and, moreover, it displays accuracy when simultaneously analyzing such complex matrix digested soils. Yet, more efforts required towards definitive replacement electroanalysis field, elegant approaches already literature.

Determination of Trace Mercury (Hg(II)) by Anodic Stripping Voltammetry at a Gold Electrode

ronment, the determination of trace Hg(II) is important. Atomic absorpt ion and inductively coupled plasma spectroscopic methods are currently widely used. Many publications on this subject focus on electrochemical methods (anodic and potentiometric stripping voltammetry) at a variety of electrode materials. Glassy carbon, goldplated glassy carbon, screen-printed carbon, platinum (Pt) and gold ...

Mathematical Modelling of the Electrode Process of Azithromycin Using Cyclic Voltammetry at Hanging Mercury Drop Electrode

A theoretical treatment is presented to predict the kinetic behaviour of azithromycin at the surface of hanging mercury drop electrode using cyclic voltammetry. A model is developed to incorporate the occurrence of adsorption of the oxidized and reduced species of azithromycin at the surface of mercury drop electrode. An analytical solution was obtained using MATHEMATICA (V-3, Wolfram Research,...

Heavy Metal Analysis by Anodic Stripping Voltammetry

Let’s say that you wanted to determine the heavy metal identities and concentrations in sediment and suspended solid samples obtained from present day Lake Nakuru. What technique would you use for this determination? You could use Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) as was done in the article (Nelson 1998), but another technique, which is particularly good at detecting metals at the ppb level ...

Square Wave Anodic Stripping Voltammetry at the Mercury Film Electrode: Theoretical Treatment

The theoretical treatment of square wave anodic stripping voltammetry at a mercury film electrode Is presented. Numerlcal calculations, using the step method, show that the dlfferentlal current voltammograms are symmetrical and the peak potentlal, E,, shlfts to more negaflve potentials (anEd8 log A = 59.2 mV) with decreasing film thickness parameter A = / / ( D R ~ ) " * . For A < 0.3, peak cur...

Determination of Antimony (III) in Real Samples by Anodic Stripping Voltammetry Using a Mercury Film Screen-Printed Electrode

This paper describes a procedure for the determination of antimony (III) by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry using a mercury film screen-printed electrode as the working electrode. The procedure has been optimized using experimental design methodology. Under these conditions, in terms of Residual Standard Deviation (RSD), the repeatability (3.81 %) and the reproducibility (5.07 %...
